A new blog post on the “Gay Girl” Facebook pages, states that the blog is a hoax.  An article discussing the alleged hoax appeared on CNN.com as well.  Find the CNN.com story here: Syrian blogger story

The blogger, named Amina Abdallah, was reported to have been active in protests taking place in Syria, to challenge the autocratic rule of Bashar al-Assad, and bring about democratic reforms to the country.  Amina had maintained a page on Facebook, allowing member of the public to follow her activities.  Abdallah’s blog posts had begun appearing in February, and had stopped after some time, leading many to believe that she had been abducted and detained.  In fact, many people involved in protests in repressive Syria had been abducted, detained, and subjected to brutal torture, lending urgency to Abdallah’s case.  Many foreign news and aid agencies, including CNN, had been following the story closely, and Sunday’s revelation that the blog may have been a hoax, came as a shock to these organizations.  More needs to be learned about Amina Abdallah and her blog posts, and further information is certain to come out over the next few weeks.
